Day 2: Kamloops to Jasper

Day two was the drive to Jasper National Park. Our first stop was Little Fort, where the signs on the highway promised us a UFO photo stand. Alas, it had been shut down. So we fueled up and continued on our way.

Day 1: Kamloops

20110929-095447.jpg
Only one day into the trip, and we’re already rethinking our timeline a bit. First of all, Uhaul gave us 13 days instead of or anticipated 11 days to get to Montreal. We intend to use every extra day we have!
Secondly, driving with a full truck and trailer is slow going! Our top speed is 80 km, which wouldn’t be so bad, except that uphill our speed is more like 50 to 60 km. It will be a long haul getting through the Rockies, but we had already decided to try and not drive more than 6 hours per day, so it should be fine.
We stayed in Kamloops with the Hubby’s childhood friend and his dog. It was nice to have a relaxing evening, play some crib, have a few beers, and decompress from a hectic day packing our life up. The Dahgs got along great and provided some good entertainment, although there were some disagreements over rawhide bones!
Today, Day 2, is the drive into the Rockies, to Jasper National Park. We’re leaving early enough, we should get there by the time the sun goes down. But we’ll see!

It’ll soon be here

20110928-144559.jpg
Our lesson today came from Fleetwood Mac. I’m obsessed with Rumours lately, but hadn’t listened to it in a few weeks, trying to ween myself off. Of course, I gravitated toward it on my last trip to Our Town this morning for coffee. And of course the biggest single, “Don’t Stop” jumped out with:
Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow
Don’t stop, it’ll soon be here

Moving is chaos!

20110926-222552.jpg

GTFO-date is fast approaching. We turn over keys on Wednesday at 1:00 pm, and hope to hit the road for Kamloops shortly thereafter. It’s hard to believe how soon it’s come. We’re both off work, and Monday (today) and Tuesday are total packing days.

Moving is chaotic! A few observations:

Fashion

12 ways to tie a scarf - a useful skill set in Montreal!

I’ve been slacking on the blogging (already! you say) for the last week.  Sorry, but a combo of work, going-away party, subsequent hangover, hubby-work-party, subsequent food coma, and then a migraine has made blogging a low priority. Plus I’ve had a little bit of new-writers block. But I was inspired to write about something that is a worry and excitement about moving: fashion. One of the things people consistently mention about Montreal is how fashionable of a city it is. This makes me both nervous and excited.

Fitness!!

When the Hubby and I got engaged last November, one of my goals for wedding planning was to lose some of this pesky 30 lbs that had been sticking around since 2006. I gained the weight quickly, and it was caused by some birth control that my body didn’t react well to, in combination with poor eating habits, and lack of exercise.

Squamish: the cities alone in the hills

The Dahg admiring the local foliage

The Dahg and I went up to Squamish today to hike around Alice Lake. Of the places I will miss in BC, Squamish is high high high on the list. We usually make it up at least 5 times in a summer for rock climbing. This summer, because of the weather, the wedding, and preparing to move, we’ve only been up once for Live at Squamish. After taking a spur-of-the-moment day-trip to Whistler last Friday, I decided to take a similar day-trip to Squamish today.
